About Theology Groups
Theology Groups is a dedicated online platform for Christian theological communities.
It exists to give people a focused place to find and create communities centered on Christianity and Christian theology.
Why Theology Groups?
Theological communities already exist across major social media platforms, and those platforms can be valuable places to connect. But theological discussion there exists alongside advertising, engagement-driven feeds, short-form video, unrelated social content, political and cultural noise, and countless other things competing for attention.
Theology Groups is intended to provide something different: a space where Christian theological communities are the focus rather than one small part of a much larger social network.
There are no advertising feeds and no engagement-driven content feed designed to keep people scrolling through unrelated material. Theology can still intersect with culture, politics, ethics, history, science, and many other subjects. The difference is that the platform itself remains centered on theological community.
Many Communities, Not One Theological Position
Theology Groups is not a denomination, theological tradition, doctrinal system, or theological movement.
The platform does not exist to promote one particular theological position. Instead, it provides a common space in which many different communities can exist.
Individual groups may develop their own theological focus, convictions, boundaries, membership expectations, and additional community rules within the platform-wide Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.
Theology Groups provides the platform-wide framework. Individual groups provide the theological identity of their own communities.
Christian in Scope, Broad in Participation
Each group should have a meaningful connection to Christianity or Christian theology, but that connection can take many forms.
Communities may study Christian beliefs, defend them, question them, debate them, critique them, compare Christianity with other religions or worldviews, or explore whether particular Christian claims are true.
Participation is not limited to Christians. Christians, seekers, skeptics, former Christians, people from other religious traditions, and others interested in Christian theology may participate in or create groups appropriate to the platform's purpose.
Theology Groups does not determine whether a community belongs on the platform simply by deciding whether its theology is “Christian enough.” The platform defines its scope by subject and purpose rather than by enforcing theological conformity.
Disagreement with Christianity or criticism of Christian beliefs does not by itself place a group outside that scope. Communities that are unrelated to Christianity or Christian theology, or whose primary purpose is hostility toward Christianity or Christians, fall outside the purpose of Theology Groups.
A More Intentional Community
Theology Groups is currently free during its initial phase, with paid membership planned for the future.
A paid model can help support an ad-free platform without depending on advertising or designing the service around maximizing attention and engagement.
It can also create an additional level of intentionality. A membership cost cannot eliminate trolls, bots, disposable accounts, or other bad actors, but it can create another hurdle for people whose primary interest is disruption rather than genuine participation.
The goal is not to make theological discussion exclusive. The goal is to sustain a focused, ad-free platform and encourage more intentional participation.
What Theology Groups Is For
Theology Groups exists so people interested in Christian theology can find one another, build communities, ask questions, explore convictions, disagree, learn, and have serious theological conversations in a space built specifically for that purpose.
It is not meant to eliminate disagreement or decide every theological boundary for the communities within it.
It is meant to provide a dedicated place for Christian theological communities.
